Student Accommodation Planning
Northglen and Elementary Family of Schools - Bowmanville High School and Clarington Central Secondary School
As part of planning for the new Northglen neighbourhood school, the Board is moving forward with establishing boundaries for eligible students. The new school is an important step in addressing enrolment pressures in schools within the area.
School board administration has also been reviewing the capacity and space limitations of schools in the Bowmanville/West Clarington area overall. Some schools in the area are projected to continue to have significantly more students than they can accommodate, while others are under capacity.
To identify long-term solutions to these challenges, administration is considering boundary and school adjustments to elementary schools within the Bowmanville High School Family of Schools and Clarington Central Secondary School Family of Schools.
We invited parents to join us at two meetings to learn more about the proposed school boundaries for the new Northglen neighbourhood school, the accommodation challenges we are addressing, and provide feedback and input on these issues and possible solutions.

- December 7, 2023, 6:30 p.m., Clarington Central Secondary School
In the establishment of school boundaries for the new Northglen neighbourhood school, and Bowmanville/west Clarington area, administration is considering options that would result in changes to the following schools:
- Central PS
- Charles Bowman PS
- Clarington Central Intermediate School
- Enniskillen PS
- Hampton Junior PS and M.J. Hobbs Senior PS
- Harold Longworth PS
- Waverley PS
Administration is also proposing broader boundary adjustments between elementary schools in these areas. Specifically, adjustments between the following schools:
- Dr. Ross Tilley PS and Lydia Trull PS – with Lydia Trull PS receiving additional students,
- Harold Longworth PS and Vincent Massey PS – with Harold Longworth PS receiving additional students.
Updated Boundary Options
Based on the feedback from the October 16 in-person community meeting and the online ThoughtExchange, the school board has revised the school boundary options being considered. Two new (hybrid) options for the Northglen Neighbourhood School boundary will be presented to families at the December 7, 2023 community meeting and are now posted below. The feedback from the first in-person meeting and the online ThoughtExchange feedback have also been posted.
Part of the boundary revision being proposed includes an additional area of the current Charles Bowman PS catchment (approximately 90 students in the area would attend Northglen instead of Charles Bowman PS).
Families will be able to provide feedback on the revised options at the December 7 meeting for parents/caregivers at Clarington Central Secondary School, 6:30 p.m.
