Trustee Responsibilities
School boards, in consultation with their administrators and their school communities, set local policies, priorities, and budgets within the framework of provincial legislation and policy.
Boards establish their local budgets within the scope provided by their funding allocation. They are responsible for ensuring that their schools and staff have the professional capacity and the appropriate resources to meet provincial and local policies and priorities. They are equally responsible for spending the public funds they receive from the province in a cost-effective and appropriate way.
Boards hold their directors of education and, through their directors, their superintendents, principals, teachers, and support staff accountable for meeting provincial and board policies and for ensuring that the board's funding allocation is spent in keeping with the Board budget.
Boards are accountable to their communities (their electors) and to the province for continuous improvement in the level of student achievement in their schools.

Message from Steve Russell, Chairperson of the Board
As a lifelong educator with a passion for public education, I am deeply aware of the impact our collective work has on the lives of the students in our care. Throughout my career as a secondary teacher and arts consultant, I worked with students and staff to develop authentic and meaningful learning experiences in the arts. I am a former Arts Consultant for KPRDSB and have served as President of the Council of Ontario Drama and Dance Educators (CODE).
I am energized and ready to embrace the exciting challenges and responsibilities that lay ahead of us in this new term of office.
As Trustees, my colleagues and I at the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board believe that a strong and vibrant public education system provides incalculable value to our communities and society.
We are continually amazed by the achievements and accomplishments of our staff and students, and remain committed to their wellbeing and success in our schools every day.
These past years have served as a reminder that our most important educational partners, the families of our students, entrust us to open the door to new directions and a successful future for their children.
It is a responsibility we take very seriously, and we will continue to positively advocate on behalf of those we represent, and work to meet the goals we share with the students and families we serve.
Our schools do not exist in a vacuum, but are dependent on the support of the communities in which they reside. We extend our sincere thanks to the support of all our local education partners – school council members, volunteers, and community members, for making student success possible.
We thank our incredible teachers, administrators, and education workers for finding new ways, daily, to reach all students and for embracing the diversity and uniqueness we each bring to our community. It is these people within the walls of our buildings, who, through their professionalism and dedication to excellence, are truly responsible for our accomplishments as an organization.
Sincerely,
Steve Russell
Chairperson of the Board
