Courtice Intermediate and Queen Elizabeth PS Celebrate Music Funding Announcements!
Students at Queen Elizabeth PS and Courtice Intermediate School are set for an exciting year of music-making and creativity! Both KPR schools were among the 96 schools across Canada selected to receive funding through the MusiCounts School Music Funding Program.
At Queen Elizabeth PS, the $8,000 MusiCounts grant will further enhance the school’s already thriving music program, led by Music Teacher Derek Weatherdon. The funding will expand access to instruments and learning resources, including support for the school's Intermediate Guitar Program.
“We are enormously grateful to MusiCounts for recognizing the value of the program and investing in our students. The impact of this funding will extend well beyond this school year, with new instruments and resources serving students for many years to come,” shares Derek.
The Courtice Intermediate school community was also thrilled to learn it had been awarded a $19,000 MusiCounts grant! The funding will strengthen music learning opportunities for current and future students through the purchase of instruments, equipment, and resources to help make music education accessible, and inclusive to all students. With program enhancements on the horizon, students are looking forward to the opportunity to continue expressing their creativity, developing their talents and experiencing the joy of learning music together!
CCI Students Share Talents with the Community in the Northumberland Hills Studio Tour
Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) and Visual Arts students at Cobourg Collegiate Institute (CCI) showcased their talents and demonstrated community spirit earlier this month, participating in the annual Northumberland Hills Studio Tour!
Students in Grades 9 to 12 proudly displayed their artwork in the school's foyer, welcoming community members to view and purchase their creations. The diverse collection featured acrylic and oil paintings, ceramics, crochet pieces, and found-object sculptures, highlighting the creativity and talent of CCI's student artists.
Many visitors and community members stopped by to celebrate and encourage the young artists.
Kenner CVI’s Leadership Class Hosts School-Wide Club Fair!
Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute (CVI) kicked off the school year by showcasing the many ways students can get involved! To help encourage students to participate in school life and promote school spirit, Mr. Stringer's Leadership class hosted a Club Fair for students to explore the many clubs, sports teams and extra-curricular opportunities available at the school.
With booths featuring opportunities such as Science Club, yearbook and band, GSA, Super Smash Bros’ Club, Friday Jam Club, basketball, ultimate frisbee, peer tutoring, Student Advisory Council, dance, and more, students had many opportunities to discover new interests and connect with their school community!
Roseneath Centennial PS to Participate in Alderville First Nation's Every Child Matters Walk
The Roseneath Centennial PS school community has been engaged in meaningful learning as students and staff prepare to join Alderville First Nation’s Every Child Matters Walk.
Together with community members, students and staff will gather on September 30th to honour Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and raise awareness of the ongoing journey toward Truth and Reconciliation.
All are welcome to take part in this walk of remembrance and reflection taking place Wednesday, September 30 at 11:00am. See the poster for event details.
Launching a Year of SHINE at Camborne PS!
Camborne PS students and staff have launched the SHINE at Camborne campaign—spreading kindness, respect, and inclusion throughout the school! The SHINE campaign aims to create a more inclusive and supportive school culture, strengthen relationships, and promote ongoing participation in acts of kindness and community-minded initiatives. Each letter in SHINE represents a core value at Camborne PS:
S – Support others and help each other succeed
H – Honour kindness, respect, and diversity
I – Include everyone in learning and play
N – Nurture a safe and welcoming school community
E – Engage actively in making our school a better place
Serving Up Success at ENSS!
Bringing extensive experience and knowledge from the food industry to the classroom, Del Menchions, culinary teacher at East Northumberland Secondary School (ENSS), has revamped the culinary program and sparked a passion for cuisine among students! Mr. Menchion’s culinary class is an in-demand course – with students eager to acquire new skills in a state-of-the-art kitchen facility and experience Mr. Menchion’s down to earth, fun and engaging teaching style. Thank you to Mr. Menchions for his outstanding dedication and commitment to student achievement and for sharing his expertise and fostering a love for cooking that will remain with students for years to come! #WeAreKPR
Building Strong Futures Through the CCI STICS Program
As we celebrate Education Week, we are excited to shine the #WeAreKPR spotlight on Construction Teacher, Daniel Batty at CCI! Mr. Batty teaches the Grade 11 STICS program, bringing a strong passion for the construction trade and supporting hands-on learning opportunities for students in the program. Clarke HS, The Pines Senior PS and Community Come Together for Wellness!
Yoga poses, deep breathing, hydration stations, cuddles from furry friends and other wellness activities were all part of Clarke High School’s first Wellness Fair on May 1st! In recognition of Canadian Mental Health Week, and leading into Education Week, the event featured information booths from partners like Durham Regional Police, Clarington Recreation Centre, Sunshine Therapy Dogs, Public Health and more – to help connect students with supports and resources in the community. Showcasing Robotic and Drone Technologies at Adam Scott CVI!
On Tuesday, May 6th, Adam Scott CVI was excited to welcome industry partner, OPG (Ontario Power Generation) to demonstrate innovative drone and robotic technologies! This partnership event offered a unique opportunity for students in Grades 9-12 to try out different technologies, engage with the team at OPG and learn about career opportunities in a specialized field of learning.
