About the Presentation
The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to have a range of impacts on the mental health of children, youth, and families. Anxiety and stress among school-aged children have been a concern for many as children and families begin to return to routines and more regular activities. Many families and educators are discovering their children and youth are struggling in new and unexpected ways with managing stress and approaching tasks with confidence and security.
This presentation provides a practical framework for parents and educators to help students manage their stress and continue to take small risks in their learning. Participants will learn about the opportunities to help students understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and the intentional ways we can create flexible, supportive learning expectations and environments for students that build skills and resilience over time.
Key learning outcomes from the presentation will include:
- Knowledge about how social-emotional learning strategies can support school-aged children and youth
- Learning about how supported risk-taking can help students manage anxiety and stress
- Identify opportunities to create supportive, flexible risk-taking environments for students
- Identify continued opportunities to work with other caring adults to support student mental health.
