International and Indigenous Language Program
International and Indigenous Languages Elementary Program Registration
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is planning to once again offer the International and Indigenous Languages Elementary (IILE) Program for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 who are interested in the opportunity to develop their language skills through a free, non-credit course outside of school hours.
International Language instructors focus on the development of the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing with an emphasis on oral language development. These classes are ideally taught by International Languages Instructors.
Indigenous Language instructors focus on listening and speaking within the context of land and culture. These classes are ideally taught by local Indigenous Language Instructors.
Classes will be composed of students with mixed ages and language abilities. Students feel connected with another language and learn with other children in a caring and inclusive environment.
Classes will run once per week on Tuesday evenings from 4:30PM to 6:00PM from November to the end of May at locations in Peterborough (PACE), Cobourg (Northumberland CIS), and Bowmanville (Clarington CIS). The languages and method of delivery will be determined based on input from families.
In order to run a class, there will need to be 23 students registered and a qualified instructor. We DO NOT offer French or English language as part of this program as those language programs are offered in schools in our board.
