In collaboration with other departments and programs at the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR), the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team is pleased to support safe, inclusive learning and working environments where belonging, well-being, mental health, and the diversity and lived experiences of students and staff are valued and affirmed, including through the recognition and acknowledgement of Days of Significance that celebrate the rich diversity of faith traditions within our school communities.

Days of Significance are intended to recognize important cultural, faith-based, and certain secular holidays and events observed by diverse students, staff, families, and communities. On such days, KPR schools may consider how major school activities are scheduled to help foster a culture of inclusion, belonging, and respect for all identities.
Because each KPR school community has its own cultural, religious, and social context, Days of Significance are not assigned centrally across the system. This flexible approach allows schools to consider the needs of their own communities and make thoughtful decisions that are responsive, respectful, and inclusive.
KPR schools, staff, and worksites are expected to remain mindful of individual and community contexts and to respond in culturally respectful ways. This includes taking steps to ensure that staff and students are not excluded from events or opportunities because of individual observances. The Multifaith Calendar may be used as a resource to support schools and worksites in fostering meaningful equity, diversity, and inclusion across the system.

Ukrainian Heritage Month
Ukrainian Heritage Month is recognized in September. We celebrate the valuable contributions and rich culture that Ukrainians bring to our school communities and beyond. We also continue to hold in our thoughts all those impacted by the ongoing global conflict in Eastern Europe. German Heritage Month
Throughout German Heritage Month, we celebrate the remarkable contributions Canadians of German heritage have made and continue to make to our country. For more information, visit the Government of Canada’s website.

Korean Heritage Month

Latin American Heritage Month

Women's History Month
October is Women’s History Month. Throughout this month and beyond, we celebrate the achievements and contributions of women from diverse backgrounds and honour their unique experiences, perspectives and intersectionality. Albanian Heritage Month
During Albanian Heritage Month, we recognize the meaningful contributions Albanian-Canadians have made in building Ontario’s communities and their social, economic, political and cultural achievements throughout the province. Indigenous Peoples Awareness Month
November is Indigenous Peoples Awareness Month. At KPR, our commitment to honouring Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing continues throughout the entire school year. We recognize this month as an intentional time for students and staff to expand their learning, celebrate Indigenous excellence, and amplify the voices of First Nation, Métis and Inuit peoples.
Lebanese Heritage Month

Black History Month
Black History Month is a time for intentional recognition of the achievements, contributions and lived experiences of Black communities. We recognize the value of celebrating and highlighting Black History and Black Excellence every day. As we honour and celebrate the history, achievements, and excellence of Black communities around the world, it is important to focus on multi-faceted stories which do not limit and/or reduce narratives of the Black Experience to trauma, struggle, and/or oppression, as there is so much more to the stories of Black communities.
Bangladeshi Heritage Month
During Bangladeshi Heritage Month, we honour the many significant contributions Bangladeshi Canadians have made throughout the province, and highlight their important role in strengthening the multi-cultural fabric that keeps Ontario’s communities strong. Hellenic Heritage Month

Irish Heritage Month
During Irish Heritage Month, we recognize Canadians of Irish heritage and their many contributions to the fabric of our society. Whether it is in the arts, music, literature, business, politics, or other fields, their traditions and history have helped enriched communities from coast to coast to coast and have helped shape Canada into a diverse country. National Indigenous History Month
· Throughout National Indigenous History Month, students and staff engage in holistic learning and reflection about Indigenous cultures, perspectives and histories. This month is an opportunity to continue to build on the important work that has taken place throughout the school year, supporting a deeper understanding of past, current and future experiences of all Indigenous peoples in Canada.
Portuguese Heritage Month
Portuguese Heritage Month recognizes the vibrant Portuguese Canadian community in Ontario that continues to make many significant contributions to our society and to enrich it with its history, language, culture and work ethic. Pride Month
· June is Pride Month. Students, staff and school communities come together to celebrate, uplift and support the voices of 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities. While Pride month is an intentional time of celebration and learning, schools embrace opportunities to educate, promote acceptance and reaffirm values of equity, diversity and inclusivity all year round.
Egyptian Heritage Month
Egyptian Heritage Month recognizes the important contributions that Egyptian Canadians have made and continue to make to the economic, social and cultural fabric of Ontario. Egyptian Heritage Month is an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about the achievements and contributions of Egyptian Canadians in the province. Tibetan Heritage Month
