Cheers for Outstanding Nutrition Program Volunteers!
In honour of National Volunteer Week, KPR schools are pleased to recognize the outstanding contributions of volunteers.
Sue Swankie from Buckhorn PS, Brian Barnes from Otonabee Valley PS, and Lori Adamson from Millbrook/South Cavan PS, keep nutrition programs at their schools running smoothly!
Sue goes above and beyond to coordinate the breakfast program at Buckhorn PS - she schedules volunteers and coordinates food orders to make sure everything runs efficiently to provide nutritious breakfasts for all the students. She also volunteers as much as she can with class events and trips and supports school functions like the fun fair and spring concert.
Brian has been coordinating the nutrition program at Otonabee Valley PS for many years, doing all the shopping and ordering for the program and coordinating the volunteer group who comes in weekly to make sandwiches, bag snacks and make sure class bins are filled. He does it all with a smile, putting students first, and helping them do their best learning with healthy food as fuel!
At Millbrook/South Cavan PS, Lori ensures a variety of healthy options are offered daily, organizes volunteers, fills shifts when needed, even at the last minute, and makes hundreds of muffins herself! She is a kind, familiar face amongst staff and students and dedicates so much of herself to the program and school. She volunteers with classes and other aspects of the school as well.
From shopping and ordering, to coordinating volunteers, and packaging and baking items themselves – these amazing volunteers support student success every day!
