Application for Integrated Arts Program

Applications for September 2026 are closed.  Applications for September 2027 will open in October 2026.

How to apply

The application process is lengthy but rewarding. We encourage you to take the time to go over all requirements and to reach out if you have any questions. All items will be due by TBD January 2027.  All applicants will then be invited to our audition day which takes place in January 2027. Below you will find a list of all required components of our application:

      1.  2027 Online application form.

      2.  Two teacher referrals (one grade 8 teacher and one other/specialty teacher)

      3.   Personal scrapbook (submitted virtually)

      4.   Audition piece (subject specific and submitted virtually)

      5.  $20 application fee (online payment).  

      6.  Audition day:  In person subject specific masterclass & interview!​

To officially register as a applicant and submit all required application you must create an application profile as your first step with a *gmail email account (*not your school email account: a personal gmail account!)

Audition day

A reminder that all students participating in audition day must have submitted a completed application package by the application deadline.

We are excited to return to an in-person audition day! Once you have completed all of your virtual submissions, you will be required to attend our audition day on date TBD January 2027 to participate in a masterclass and an interview. Masterclasses are subject specific and are guided by our Integrated Arts teachers. All applicants participate in the masterclass together! Interviews are conducted in the afternoon and are completed individually. You will be assigned an interview time ahead of audition day. 

Below is a sample schedule of our audition day:

8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.: Check in

9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.: Master class

11:00 a.m. - 11:40 a.m.: Lunch (student provides own lunch)

11:40 a.m - 4:00 p.m.: Interviews

Areas of focus are below to learn more about your audition day, requirements, and expectations:

Visual Art portfolio

We are looking for 5 of your most recent, favourite, and best pieces. 3 of these 5 pieces are teacher-prompted (found in application portal) and 2 are of your own choosing.

Some Ideas:

  • work should have variety

  • work with emphasis on line

  • work with emphasis on value

  • work with emphasis on colour

  • use a variety of media (pencil, pen, coloured pencil, oil pastel, paint, clay, etc.)

  • You can make art out of almost anything!

  • Reminder that large works of art can be included but should photographed for submission

Personal scrapbook

  • We want to get to know YOU.

  • Show us through any evidence what you have been involved with in your life.

  • These interests can be from anywhere, not just the arts!

  • Consider: awards, certificates, report cards, pictures, activities outside of school like athletics, family events and community groups, etc.

Check-in

Enter the school through theatre entrance 2 and check in with the arts faculty in front of the cafeteria. Applicants will be escorted to the appropriate master class at this time. Please arrive on time.

The master class

9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

​The first part of your day begins with a 2 hour visual art master class led by members of the visual art faculty. All applicants participate in this group portion of the audition.

Master class tips and tricks:

  • This is an amazing opportunity for you to learn from new people. Embrace the challenge and say YES to new concepts.

  • We are paying attention to not only your skill set but also your attitude, character, and work ethic.

  • If you mess up, its ok! We don't expect anyone to be an expert. Participants are expected to attempt each task to the best of their ability.

Lunch

11:00 a.m. - 11:40 a.m

Applicant is to provide their own lunch during this time.

Interviews

11:40 a.m - 4:00 p.m.

Each applicant will be scheduled for a 10 minute interview where they will have the opportunity to discuss their virtual submissions of artwork and personal digital scrapbook.

  • You may be nervous but we will be helpful, kind, and guide you along the way.

  • Be proud of your accomplishments; our potential students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

  • Be confident in who you are. Remember that life would be boring if we were all the same!

Dance solo video

Applicants must prepare a 1 minute dance solo. Your solo is a chance to show us your skills and abilities in your strongest genre of dance.

Things we are looking for in a solo:

  • Execution/Precision

  • Performance/Expression

  • Ability in chosen genre

  • Variety (a mix of technical and non-technical elements)

  • Your solo should be no longer than 1 minute

  • You are encouraged to create your own solo but studio solos are acceptable.

  • Show us through any evidence what you have been involved with in your life.

  • These interests can be from anywhere, not just the arts!

  • Consider: awards, certificates, report cards, pictures, activities outside of school like athletics, family events and community groups, etc.

The first part of your day begins with a 2 hour dance master class led by members of the Dance faculty. All applicants participate in this group portion of the audition.

Please wear dance clothing that allows you to move without restriction. Students typically participate in a technique lesson, an urban dance lesson and complete a creative task.

Master class tips and tricks:

  • This is an amazing opportunity for you to learn from new people. Embrace the challenge and say YES to new concepts.
  • We are paying attention to not only your skill set but also your attitude, character, and work ethic.
  • If you mess up, its ok! We don't expect anyone to be an expert. Participants are expected to attempt each task to the best of their ability.

Lunch

11:00 a.m. - 11:40 a.m

Applicant is to provide their own lunch during this time.

Interviews

11:40 a.m - 4:00 p.m.

Each applicant will be scheduled for a 10 minute interview where they will have the opportunity to discuss the solo they submitted and personal digital scrapbook.

Drama monologue video

Your monologue should be no longer than 1 minute in length.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Have it memorized.

  • Be sure to articulate, add inflection, and project to your audience.

  • Don't forget about emotions, facial expressions, and physical movements.

Music solo

(Submitted Digitally)

  • Students may audition on any wind, string, brass, or percussion instrument.

  • The selected audition piece can range from a simple melody to a complicated number.

  • Key elements in a musical performance are:

    • tempo, correct rhythms, expression, dynamic, and tone when applicable​

  • Music potential is the key factor to a positive decision by the selection team.
