Updates for Families: December 5, 2025

Updates for Families banner

Dear KPR Families,

December is upon us and once again I am amazed by the generosity and compassion of KPR students, staff, families and volunteers, who come together in countless ways in support of local food banks, toy drives and other campaigns, engaging in acts of kindness and fostering a sense of community and connection.

I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the work of school councils, and staff and community volunteers across the district, who are especially active around this time of year leading many charitable activities and contributing positively to school communities. During my visit to Kawartha Heights PS earlier this week, I was inspired by volunteer school council members, whose efforts to plan a Holiday Bazaar and gather non-perishable food items and gift donations embody the spirit of giving, spreading smiles and holiday cheer all around!

As we navigate the busy weeks ahead, I encourage everyone to practice self-care. While this time of year may offer moments of excitement and joy for some, it can feel overwhelming, stressful, or lonely for others. School Mental Health Ontario offers many valuable resources for students and families, including wellness reminders and tips leading into the Winter Break.

Our schools remain welcoming and inclusive, and with holidays and special observances approaching, we have a great opportunity to learn, connect, and celebrate diverse cultural traditions. Follow along @kprschools and visit the Events Calendar for information about days of significance in December, including International Day of Persons with Disabilities and National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women this week, followed by International Human Rights Day next week.

Many in KPR communities will be celebrating Hanukkah from December 15-22, Winter Solstice on December 21, Christmas on December 25, and Kwanzaa from December 26-January 1.

Best wishes to everyone leading up to the Winter Break.

Sincerely,

Rita Russo
Director of Education

Every Student Matters Census

Knowing more about the backgrounds and experiences of KPR’s school communities can help us improve programs and services for all KPR students!

While students in Grades 5 and above are working to complete the Census at school, we are relying on families to assist with completing the JK-Grade 4 Census at home.

Parents/caregivers of Kindergarten to Grade 4 students received a unique access code and direct link to complete the Every Student Matters Census. The Census is open until December 10.

The Census gathers demographic data about the backgrounds and experiences of students and communities to help us better understand needs, identify and address barriers to student success, inclusion and well-being, and allocate resources and improve programs and services for the benefit of ALL students.

More information and opt-out is available at www.kprschools.ca/census
