Updates for Families: August 29, 2025
Dear KPR families,
We are excited to welcome students back to another amazing year in KPR schools!
In the coming year, we will continue to focus on our mission – to inspire students to excel in learning, succeed in life, and enrich our communities. We truly value the partnership of parents, caregivers and families in supporting our shared goal of student success.
Many KPR staff worked over the summer – Maintenance, Custodial, and Education Centre staff were busy preparing our schools and district for the year ahead. School-based educators and support staff continue to be focused on fostering inclusive, welcoming environments with a diverse range of learning opportunities responsive to the needs of students.
For students who may be experiencing mixed emotions about returning to school, experiencing transitions or adapting to new routines and relationships, the Mentally Healthy School Support Package includes resources for student mental health and well-being.
Another important focus is ensuring a safe school start-up in the coming days with more students, vehicles, walkers and bicycles on the roads. We continue to remind everyone that school zones are busy places, and to be cautious when traveling to and from school. We sincerely appreciate the contributions of dedicated bus drivers, transportation staff, crossing guards, local police services and municipalities in keeping students, staff and families safe.
I will continue to send bi-weekly updates to families this school year, with news and information to keep everyone informed. Another great source of information is KPR’s social media accounts. Please follow @kprschools on Facebook and Instagram for timely updates and #WeAreKPR highlights!
In closing, Paul Calandra, Minister of Education, has asked us to share a message with families, students, and staff.
Best wishes for the year ahead! #WeAreKPR!

ANNUAL KPR PARENT CONFERENCE - SAVE THE DATE!
Rebuilding Connection: Raising Socially Smart Kids in an Online World – Webinar, Saturday, September 27
In today’s fast-paced, digitally driven world, many families are feeling disconnection—from their communities, from each other, and even from themselves. KPR’s Parent Involvement Committee invites parents/caregivers and KPR staff to join celebrated parenting expert Ann Douglas for an illuminating webinar that offers practical, compassionate strategies for helping children and teens build healthy relationships—both online and offline.
Rebuilding Connection: Raising Socially Smart Kids in an Online World – this webinar takes place Saturday, September 27, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Registration information is coming soon!
Grade 9 Transition Day
As a reminder, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, only Grade 9 students and Learning and Life Skills (LLS) students will attend secondary schools. Classes for students in Grades 10 to 12 begin on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Student Code of Conduct – Personal Devices, Vaping and Behaviour
Consistent with KPR’s commitment to fostering a culture where learning, belonging and communities matter, the Student Code of Conduct addresses the standards of behaviours expected of students, and the responsibilities of members of the KPR community. Everyone is entitled to safety and the right to be and feel safe at school.
As a reminder, smoking, vaping, and nicotine products are not allowed on board property or in schools.
To help ensure focused and engaging learning environments, students in Kindergarten - Grade 8 may not use mobile devices anytime during the school day, inclusive of recess. Students in Grades 9-12 may not use mobile devices during instructional time. Personal mobile devices must be on silent and stored out of view, for all grades, except under the following circumstances:
-
for educational purposes, as directed by an educator,
-
for health and medical purposes, or
-
to support special education needs.
Schools continue to work with students to educate and support them regarding these expectations. If students need to use their phones for reasons other than those outlined above, families should contact their school administration to discuss a shared solution.
Public Health Update
Public health partners have asked us to remind staff and families to know their immunization status. Public Health will review all student and staff vaccination records in the event of a measles exposure.
