Update for Families: October 23, 2025
Dear KPR Families,
We’re surrounded by the peak of fall colours, and this time of year presents a beautiful backdrop for both indoor and outdoor learning opportunities! The collaboration and partnership happening in schools and behind the scenes, to create community-focused activities, such as field trips and other events, is remarkable. It brings me joy to see the impact of this collective work, and all the many ways students, staff, and school communities embrace the #WeAreKPR spirit!
Student Trustees, Julia Redwood and Nevyn Ghori are perfect examples of the #WeAreKPR spirit in action. Representing over 35,000 students across the board, Julia and Nevyn are passionate about amplifying student voice and are focused on key priorities like accessibility and transparency! I invite you to watch this short video to get to know Nevyn and Julia.
This week, schools recognized Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Appreciation Day on October 21. This day shines a spotlight on the important work of Registered ECEs and staff working in schools – both in full-day Kindergarten and school-based child care settings. We acknowledge the professionalism, skills and dedication of all staff who work with young children. Thank you for your valuable contributions and incredible impact on children, families and communities!
We also celebrated School Bus Driver Appreciation Day on October 22. We thank all school bus drivers and transportation staff for their dedicated service and commitment to providing safe transportation for students – and for playing an integral role in our local education system.
As we look ahead to November, we welcome Indigenous Peoples Awareness Month, with many important days of Indigenous significance. For information about these and other days of significance, please visit KPR’s Events Calendar.
Sincerely,
Rita Russo
Director of Education

Volunteer Policy Updates
We are pleased to share that updates to Board Policy B-7.2 Volunteers and corresponding Administrative Regulation B-7.2.1 Volunteers have been approved.
These updates include moving from a yearly Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search to one every five years, and the completion of an Annual Volunteer Offence Declaration for the years in between – and will help support volunteer engagement in school activities and student achievement, while also removing barriers to participation.
Importantly, these changes will help reduce costs and wait times for volunteers who wish to support students and schools on a continual, year-over-year basis. Parents/caregivers and volunteers can contact their school’s office for more information.
Introducing RISE for Student Documents
KPR is excited to announce the launch of RISE – a secure digital platform for communicating securely and managing and sharing important student documents for special education.
To ensure families receive school reminders and news, and to access important student documents for special education, we remind parents and caregivers to ensure their email contact information is up to date with the school office.
October is Cyber Security Awareness Month
School boards, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Educational Collaborative Network of Ontario (ECNO), are promoting best practices in cyber safety, cyber security, and online privacy throughout Cyber Security Awareness Month. The intent is to encourage safer and more secure practices across school communities when using digital technologies and the internet. Learn more and follow along on KPR’s social media @kprschools!
