Update for Families: January 16, 2026
Hello everyone,
January in KPR is all about Starting Well — with a renewed focus on mental health and well-being. Throughout the month, we’re sharing tips, resources, and strategies, that promote positive mental health, strong relationships, and a sense of belonging in our schools and communities.
By highlighting themes such as community, mental health literacy, connection, and gratitude, Starting Well 2026 encourages everyone to work together to create supportive environments where students and staff can thrive. Follow along @kprschools on Facebook and Instagram.
As we settle into the new calendar year, schools and education centres continue to be busy and welcoming places for students, families and community members. Secondary school students and staff are preparing for exams and culminating tasks, and I wish everyone well in that important work, as students demonstrate their learning in multiple ways and educational staff support and assess their progress.
Information about upcoming days of significance, such as Family Literacy Day on January 24, Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27 and the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack on January 29, is available on the KPR Events Calendar, and on our social media accounts @kprschools on Facebook and Instagram.
All my best,
Rita Russo
Director of Education

2026-2027 School Year Calendar Consultation
KPR students, staff, families and community members are invited to provide feedback on the proposed 2026-2027 school year calendar. Since the Labour Day holiday falls later in September, there are unique considerations for the 2026-2027 School Year Calendar.
Visit the school board website to view elementary and secondary school calendar drafts, including PA Days and Exam dates, and share your feedback by January 25, 2026.
Option 1
-
In Option 1, school starts on Tuesday, September 1 (before Labour Day, which is Monday, September 7).
-
Option 1 includes Board holidays on November 13, November 16 and on March 12, leading into March Break.
Option 2
-
In Option 2, school starts on Tuesday, September 8 (after Labour Day, Monday, September 7).
-
Option 2 does not include Board holidays in November and does not include a Board holiday on the Friday before March Break.
In Both Options
-
In both options, March Break is March 15 through 19. December Break is December 21 through January 1, with students returning to school January 4. And the last day of school will be Tuesday, June 29.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration is now OPEN for the 2026-2027 School Year! It’s time for families with children who will be four this calendar year to register for the first year of Kindergarten.
