Clarington Central Secondary School was built in 2004, the first secondary school to be built in the KPR board in 33 years. It opened its doors in September of 2005. The school’s enrolment in the first year was approximately 800 with grades 9 to 11. Grade 12 was not offered in a bid to allow senior students at other area schools to finish their high school careers without disruption. The cost of the new school was approximately $21 million dollars. Each classroom was equipped with a television monitor, and the school had broadcasting capability, which allowed for video announcements in following years. The school was equipped with a full video studio, with a control booth looking out over the cafetorium. It allows for lighting and camera-control from above during on-stage productions. The builders included a rubberized track behind the school.
