About Us

Welcome to Our School

PACE, or Peterborough Alternative and Continuing Education, is an adult, alternative, and continuing education secondary school within the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. Our goal is to help students graduate high school and achieve a successful transition to college or work.

Anyone 16 years of age or older and living in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board boundaries is eligible to attend PACE. Its broad and flexible programming is ideal for anyone who:

  • is ready to finish high school;
  • has work or family commitments that would make attending regular school difficult;
  • needs a mark upgrade for college, apprenticeship or work;
  • is a young mom;
  • has been previously unsuccessful in a traditional school setting;
  • prefers to work at an individualized pace; and
  • is over sixteen years of age and in at least their third year of high school

PACE programming consists of both secondary school credit courses for those working toward the achievement of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) as well as non-credit programs.

 Secondary school credit courses are available for students aged 16 and in their third year of high school or older. These courses are also offered through our correspondence programs.

Other programs offered for adults at this time include:

In addition, PACE offers an International Languages program for elementary students. These non-credit courses are offered for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8, dependent on enrolment.

History of PCVS

Founded in 1827 and originally built in 1898, Peterborough Collegiate has gone through many changes and has played a significant role in the history of the City of Peterborough. As the only public high school in Peterborough from its opening until the construction of Kenner Collegiate in 1952, the school and its staff and students, have had a long and very rich history of excellence in academics, athletics, community service and extracurricular involvement. The school has many proud alumni (including former Prime Minister of Canada Lester B. Pearson) who continue to support their school and wear their garnet and grey proudly. In August 2012, PCVS became the home of Peterborough Alternative & Continuing Education and is recognized as PACE @ PCVS today.
