Nutrition

School Nutrition/Food Program:

At Clarington CIS, we believe food is an important foundation in being ready to learn.

Food is not only essential for us to learn, it brings us together as a community of learners.

At our school, we attempt to provide food in the following ways:

  • Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fresh water is available in our foyer
  • Food cart with various snacks available during breaks
  • Most Fridays include a free “hot lunch” for students
  • Our CYW has various contacts in our community to help students obtain food, as well as other basic necessities

At our school, we recognize that good nutrition is foundational to being ready to learn. By supporting access to food and nutrition through various programs, we empower students to focus, engage, and thrive—whether they’re returning to education or forging a new path forward.

Food Resources

Many families in Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board experience food insecurity. There are several resources available within our communities, such as Food Banks and Free/Low-cost Meals.

School Nutrition Policy

Research shows well-nourished students concentrate better, have stronger memory and demonstrate positive behaviour.  This brochure explains how the School Nutrition Policy applies to foods and beverages sold in schools, available through school programs and sold at school events.  It also explains where the policy does not apply.
