Update for Families: June 12, 2023
Hello KPR families,
Our schools are a flurry of activity this month. From plays and musicals, to a wide variety of athletic activities, to end of year trips, graduations and proms, there is so much to look forward to, for students and staff alike. Thank you to families for supporting these activities, and a big thank you to the staff members who plan and organize these meaningful opportunities.
Weather has been a significant factor lately - from wildfires and smoke, to high volumes of rain today, continuing throughout the week. Our thoughts are with the many communities across the country who continue to be affected by wildfires, and we extend our appreciation to the firefighters and other first responders who are working to contain the fires and keep people safe.
Students, staff and school communities come together this month - Pride Month, to celebrate the diversity and courage of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities by flying the Pride flag and engaging in learning opportunities together. I was part of the flag raising at the Education Centre on June 1st - it was encouraging and inspiring to see so many people joining together in celebration and allyship.
This month is also National Indigenous History Month, a time for reflection and celebration of Indigenous history, culture and perspectives. Throughout the entire year, we commit to learning and unlearning, as well as honouring the past, current and future experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
For more information about upcoming dates of significance, please visit the Events Calendar on our website.
Take care,
Rita

Summer School
Summer School registration is open for a wide variety of in-person courses. Guidance Departments at every secondary school are available to help students register. Students can enrol in recovery credits, half or full credit courses this summer. More information is available on the school board website and from Guidance Departments.
Share Your Voice!
Please take a few minutes to Share Your Voice and participate in our online Strategic Planning conversations. It’s easy and confidential - your thoughts will be shared, but not your identity.
Share your thoughts and prioritize ideas related to these two questions: How can we best support the unique and diverse learning needs of all students?
How can we best support wellness, belonging and overall success for students, staff and communities?
Both of these conversations are open until June 30. The theme for KPR’s strategic planning is Your Voice, Your Plan because we want to ensure that our plan and future direction reflects the voices and lived experiences of all students, staff, families and communities.
Virtual School Update
At the end of March, we shared with virtual school families that we would not be offering the option of a virtual school for next school year. Since then, we have been working to support virtual school students and families with a successful transition back to in-person attendance at their home school for September. We do understand that for some families, the return to in-person learning may be more challenging because of extenuating circumstances. In an effort to support these unique situations, we are exploring the option of partnering with a neighbouring school district to ensure that these students are able to continue their learning. If the transition back to your home school has presented as challenging and you wish to explore this option, please contact Diane_Findlater@kprdsb.ca prior to June 16 so we can facilitate next steps.
