Many families benefit from child care and family support services located within our school buildings.  And, while each location may offer different programs, all are designed to provide children and their families with an opportunity to learn and grow, providing a more convenient approach to school and child care, with fewer transitions for children and families.

Full Day Child Care Centres

The following schools have full service, all day child care centres located on site, run by licensed, not-for-profit child care agencies.   Fees for service are set by the agency, with subsidies available by application to the local municipality.

The following schools sites have full-service child care programs:

Extended Day Programs and Before & After School Child Care:

An integrated extended day program* for kindergarten students (with co-curricular activities), and before- and after-school child care programs for students aged 6-12 provide a seamless day from school to child care, with fewer transitions for children and families.

Typically, programs are offered from 7am to morning bell, and from afternoon bell  to 6 p.m. — although the exact time for these programs may vary at different schools. Parents may choose to enroll their child, for a fee, in the before-school, the after-school or both programs.  Subsidies are available to some families, based on financial need. The process is similar to applying for other child care subsidies.

Child care agencies may provide child care programs on non-instructional days (PA day, school holidays) if there is sufficient need.  At all school sites, these programs are offered by licensed, not-for-profit child care agencies.

The following schools have on-site extended day and/or before- and after-school child care programs:

* Registered early childhood educators are responsible for the extended day programs for full day kindergarten children. They plan a play-based program that is connected to the learning that will happen during the regular school day. The program includes a mix of exploration, guided and independent activities, quiet times and outdoor play.

Child and Family Hubs

These centres offer a variety of family services, including pre- and post-natal supports, parenting resources and programs, play groups, and links to other community resources.  Located within schools, they are community spaces where a range of organizations can come together to provide coordinated programs and supports to families.   Visit these links for a current calendar of programs being offered at each school location.  While some programs require registration, many are offered on a drop in basis.
