Long Term Accommodation Plan 2020-2025

Every five years, we create a Long Term Accommodation Plan to guide capital investment, program and facility decisions. We review the physical condition of our schools, enrollment projections, student programs and municipal development plans to ensure we are using our education funding in a way that provides the most opportunities for students.

From this review, we identify accommodation issues that we must plan for in the coming years. We consider solutions such as adjusting school boundaries, portables, program changes, new schools in high growth areas, and school closures or consolidations where enrolment is very low.

We want to hear from students, staff, families and community members about the most important things we need to consider, to support student success, while also using our facilities and resources as efficiently as possible.

Please visit https://my.thoughtexchange.com/#609046802 to share your thoughts, read others’ thoughts, and prioritize ideas as part of this important conversation.

Your participation is important and valued.

To gather your feedback, we are asking for your thoughts on one open-ended question. You will also have a chance to consider and assign a rating or ‘stars’ to the ideas shared by others. Finally, you will be able to learn what's important to the participants by seeing the highest rated thoughts.

Your thoughts and stars are confidential. You can come back as often as you like to participate and, in fact, we ask that you do come back to star some of the new ideas shared since you first participated. The ratings will help us understand the most important areas to focus on in our strategic plan.

Participation will be open until February 21, 2020.

Thank you for your participation and input!

Long Term Accommodation Plan 2020-2025

Our Long Term Accommodation Plan has been developed with input from various stakeholders, including focus group meetings held in five different low-enrolment secondary schools.

This plan is a review of all our schools: elementary and secondary. In some cases, the plan proposes actions to accommodate growth with possible additions or the construction of new schools. The plan also considers possible school consolidations or schools that could be reviewed for possible closure.

The potential changes outlined are largely as a result of the very significant decline in enrolment that we, and most school boards in Ontario, have experienced. In the last ten years alone we have declined by over 7,000 students.

It is important to note that the Long Term Accommodation Plan is a plan only, and that no decisions have been made on any of the possible recommendations. Each of the possible recommendations require a separate decision by the Board of Trustees over the next several years. In addition, the plan will be updated annually to take into account the best information possible.
