The KPR Advantage
Uniquely located in the natural heart of the Kawartha Lakes District of Ontario, Canada’s most populous province, the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR) is a progressive, forward-thinking educational community dedicated to student excellence.
Our main education centre is located in the City of Peterborough and is just one hours drive from downtown Toronto, Canada’s largest city, and a few hours from the nation’s capital, Ottawa. Home to Trent University, which has been nationally ranked as the best undergraduate university in Canada for quality of education and research, and Fleming College, Peterborough has an incredibly vibrant arts, culture and heritage community.
Education Excellence
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board covers almost 7,000 square kilometers, with our approximately 35,000 students housed within 79 elementary and 17 secondary or high schools.
Our schools are vibrant learning communities where we combine innovative use of the latest education technologies with engaging curriculum and programs to meet the unique learning needs of all students.
Our academic students had a 97% success rate in the most recent Ontario Secondary School Literacy test, and our graduates have continued their education at some of the finest educational institutions in North America and abroad.
Why Canada and why KPR?
Canada is a land of many cultures and many peoples. Aboriginal peoples have occupied the territory now called Canada for several thousands of years. Everyone else, either by birth or by descent, has been an immigrant — we have all come from somewhere else. It has been said that Canada is a “nation of immigrants.”
At KPR we take this lesson to heart. Our organization ascribes unassailable value to the principles of equity, diversity, inclusiveness and the dignity and humanity of each individual.
This core belief is the bedrock of all that we do, and our teachers and staff take great pride in preserving these fundamental human rights within our classrooms and schools.
The Best of Both Worlds
More than 130,000 students come to study in Canada every year and even more come to Canada to learn English or French. At KPR, students come for the unique blend of urban and rural educational and lifestyle advantages that we provide.
The abundant lakes and forests, that serve as the backdrop for our communities provide KPR students with a living classroom for ecological and nature studies literally ‘in their back yard.’ Throughout all seasons, our students have available to them a host of leisure activities, such as skiing, sailing, hiking, horseback riding, golfing and fishing.
At the same time, we are only one hour from Toronto, the ‘City within a Park,’ that is heralded as one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world, and lies as far south as the French Riviera. Through Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, KPR is just an hour’s flight from Montreal, New York, Boston, Washington, and Chicago.
A Home away from Home
Our International Student program enables students, through individual and small group learning, to integrate into traditional classes as quickly as possible. KPR secondary schools provide school climates that value individuality, creativity and expression of thought.
A provincial leader in school safety initiatives, like restorative practice, our educational communities have clear and firm codes of conduct that allow student excellence and achievement to flourish.
We’re Waiting
Foreign students bring a rich culture to our classrooms. Our doors are always open to the knowledge and skills they bring to our schools.
