Students in Kawartha Pine Ridge secondary schools participate in a variety of programs designed to provide valuable work skills and training while they are still in school. The Cooperative Education program allows students to earn credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma while learning the skills necessary to be successful in an occupation of their choice. Students are exposed to all facets of a job search experience, including resume preparation, job interviews and subsequent placement at a work site. The program also gives students a chance to discover whether they would like to pursue a particular career choice, and learn about the additional education and training they will need to succeed in that career area.
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board also participates in unique and innovative partnerships with community businesses, post-secondary education facilities and training organizations to provide a wealth of experiential learning opportunities for secondary school students. Some of these programs offer students a better insight into the world of work, while others provide initial apprenticeship training while students are still in secondary school.
