KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION FOR 2012-13

Registration is taking place NOW at your public schools for Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs starting in September 2012.  Kindergarten is an exciting time, when children learn through structured play. KPR's Kindergarten programs offer excellent beginnings for your child’s academic, social, emotional and language development.  KPR schools help your children to succeed, whether they are in regular Kindergarten programs; French Immersion starting in Senior Kindergarten; or the new full-day, every-day Kindergarten early learning program, to be available in 33 KPR schools for the 2012-2013 school year.

You may register your child to start school in September 2012 if:

  • Junior Kindergarten – your child is four years of age by December 31, 2012

  • Senior Kindergarten – your child is five years of age by December 31, 2012

Please bring a birth certificate or other proof of age, proof of address, and current immunization record when registering your child.  Registration forms and information are available at all schools, and by clicking on the School Registration link to the right. If you are not sure which school your child will attend, please call 705-742-9773 or toll-free 1-877-741-4577, ext. 2127.

In establishing planning for the program, KPR consulted actively with the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland Clarington Catholic District School Board and community and municipal agencies.

The Ministry of Education established specific criteria for the implementation of the program in each of the first three years:

  • Boards are expected to identify schools where the Early Learning Program can be introduced without capital construction or renovation costs
  • Coterminous boards are required to consult and plan together regarding site selection
  • Boards are also expected to consult with consolidated municipal service managers and district social services administrative boards and local Best Start networks
  • For 2010, the Early Learning Program is to locate a portion of their allotment in schools that serve low-income neighbourhoods (minimum of 10%)
  • Boards need to consider whether the community will be best served by selecting schools with existing child care programs, schools near existing licensed child care, or schools in neighbourhoods where no child care is currently available for four and five year olds
  • Boards should identify schools where students would benefit significantly from the increased learning opportunities offered by the Early Learning Program. This may include issues of poverty, language or static student achievement.
