Ojibwa Language and Culture
The Ojibwa Native Language program has been designed to provide students with:
- a general understanding of the nature and function of the Ojibwa language
- a foundation of language knowledge and skills that will enable students to communicate in the Ojibwa language
- an understanding and appreciation of Ojibwa as an expression of a distinctive culture
The ultimate goal of the program is to inspire students with pride in the Ojibwa language, motivate them to use the language to communicate in their daily lives, and use the language as part of a living culture.
The Ojibwa Native Language program is open to both Native and non-Native elementary students enrolled at Ridpath Junior P.S. in Lakefield, Lakefield Intermediate School, North Shore P.S in Keene, and Roseneath P.S., who want to learn Ojibwa and develop a better understanding of the culture. A secondary school program is also offered at Lakefield District Secondary School.
