Welcome to the Aboriginal Peoples web site!
At the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, our goal is to help all students meet with success. We value inclusiveness, a respect for diversity, and the need to provide equitable opportunities for all those in our care.
As part of this commitment we are implementing the Ontario Ministry of Education’s First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework.
We will be working to support success for aboriginal learners by increasing awareness of the learning styles of aboriginal students, and increasing understanding of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit cultures, histories, and perspectives. |
We believe it is essential that First Nation, Métis and Inuit students are engaged and feel welcome in school, and that they see themselves and their cultures in the curriculum and the school community.
One of the first steps we have taken on this journey has been, in consultation with our local aboriginal leaders, to adopt a new policy on voluntary self-identification for students with First Nation, Métis and Inuit ancestry.
By self-identifying as a student or family with aboriginal ancestry, you will be helping us with the most basic of questions – we do not currently know how many First Nation, Métis and Inuit students attend our schools.
We will use the information we gather to support the educational goals to which we have committed to as part of the provincial First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework.
