The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board takes in the regions of the previous Peterborough County Board of Education and the Northumberland-Clarington Board of Education and covers almost 7,000 square kilometres. We serve the communities located in the Kawarthas to the north, and south to Lake Ontario. Hastings County is our eastern border and our western border extends to the City of Kawartha Lakes and to the edge of the City of Oshawa.
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board has 75 elementary schools, 19 secondary schools including four adult learning centres to serve its urban and rural communities.

- Most easterly school: Stockdale Public School, Stockdale
- Most westerly school: S.T. Worden Public School, Courtice
How Many Students Attend Our Schools?
For the 2010/2011 school year, we are expecting:
- 32 932 students (20 233elementary, 12 709 secondary)
- close to 10% of these students receive special education services
- approximately 20 000 students are bused to school every day on 500 different bus routes
How Many People Does The Board Employ?
The Board employs approximately 3,500 employees, including:
- 2 121 elementary and secondary teachers
- close to 1 400 union and non-union support and administrative staff, including secretaries, custodial and maintenance staff, educational assistants, professional and paraprofessional staff, technicians, principals, vice-principals, supervisors and senior staff
We are also fortunate to receive the assistance of approximately 5,700 volunteers in our school.
The Board is governed by the following:
- 12 trustees, including a First Nations and student trustee.
To assist in our students learning, the Board makes use of:
- 1 million library books and learning materials
- over 9 000 computers and servers
- a wide area network and Internet access at each school
- Over 400 Smartboards
- Video Conferencing available in every major community in Kawartha Pine Ridge
- Connected to Orion (Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network) for Broadband connectivity
- over 78 000 items in our central Learning Resources Centres collections
- a library resource centre in every school
- French Immersion programs in nine elementary schools; students start the Immersion program in Kindergarten
- Extended French programs in five elementary schools; students start the Extended French program in Grade 5
- a range of special services provided to assist schools and teachers in meeting the needs of our students; these include special education, behavioral, psychological, social work and attendance and counselling services
- instruction in the Ojibwa language in five schools as an optional program available to Native and non-Native students
- school councils in every school; these councils are composed of parents, staff, students and community members
